Welcome back to the August issue of Swipe. Lots to get through this month, from eleventh-hour iOS updates to some slightly unsettling leaks out of Apple HQ. And with the next batch of iPhones mere weeks away, we’ve put together a wishlist of what we’d like to see at the biggest tech event of the year.
Meanwhile, our cover story explores the recent craze for picking up old iPods for a stripped-back listening experience. Why are young’uns flocking to older technology, and can you get the same benefits on your iPhone with the right apps?
I’ve been testing my way through the iOS 27 beta, with a series of previews in the how-to section. I’m not a huge fan of the way generative AI is creeping into our everyday Photos experience, but Apple’s flagship new editing features are nevertheless somewhat impressive.
I’ve also put together another indie apps roundup to celebrate small creators, with 10 under-the-radar apps featured this time. And Craig’s been writing about the best news apps for getting out of your bubble and understanding takes from across the political and social spectrum.
All that and more in this bumper issue – see you next time for all the latest after Apple’s big September event!
